Greenhill Humane Society today announced it has been awarded a $250,000 grant from the Petco Foundation to support its Capital Campaign, which will extend efforts to save more animal lives by creating better housing and a medical facility for the homeless animals of Lane County.
Greenhill Humane Society is a nonprofit organization that operates the largest animal shelters in the Eugene/Springfield area. Their lifesaving rate is among the best in the country, and in the last year over 3,000 lost, surrendered and abandoned animals were cared for and placed in homes.
The Petco Foundation investment will help combine and update Greenhill’s two aging and inadequate facilities. The community’s call to provide better behavioral and medical care for animals exceeds current capacity. This project will enable Greenhill Humane Society to provide a higher level of care for the animals while at the same time improving access to Greenhill’s programs and services for people in the community. “We are so thankful for this generous grant and opportunity from the Petco Foundation,” says Cary Lieberman, Greenhill’s executive director. “This project is community-driven, and their support for local animals shows their leadership and vision.”

About the Petco Foundation: At the Petco Foundation, we believe that every animal deserves to live its best life. Since 1999, we’ve invested more than $185 million in lifesaving animal welfare work to make that happen. With our more than 4,000 animal welfare partners, we inspire and empower communities to make a difference by investing in adoption and medical care programs, spay and neuter services, pet cancer research, service and therapy animals, and numerous other lifesaving initiatives. Through our Think Adoption First program, we partner with Petco stores and animal welfare organizations across the country to increase pet adoptions. So far, we’ve helped more than 5.3 million pets find their new loving families, and we’re just getting started. Visit petcofoundation.org to learn more about how you can get involved.
