Adult Cat Adoption Promotion due to a 28% Increase in Kittens

Felines 1 year & older have reduced fees to $23 until 7/16 in Cat-a-Pawlooza special

EUGENE, OREGON – (July 10, 2023) – “Kitten Season 2023” is in full swing at Greenhill Humane Society and the adult cats are wishing that things were a little quieter. So far in 2023, Greenhill has taken in over 560 kittens, a 28% increase over last year. To help the adults move into new homes sooner, the shelter is running a Cat-a-Pawlooza adoption promotion.

During the Cat-a-Pawlooza promotion, all cats over 1-year-old have a reduced adoption fee of $23. The promotion runs through Sunday, July 16. Greenhill is open every day with adoption meet and greets from 11 am – 4 pm. To see all the cats part of this promotion, visit Greenhill’s cat adoption page (https://www.green-hill.org/adopt_cat).

“We have over 27 adult cats in our care that are asking for a quiet home, away from all the rowdy kittens,” said Sarah Bouzad, Greenhill’s Community Engagement & Events Manager. “I also think they’re a bit jealous of how fast the youngsters get adopted. But, in all seriousness, we are seeing a longer than usual kitten season this year and would love to get our adult cats adopted to ensure we have room for the increased need.”

Greenhill Humane Society has a variety of cats ranging in age, size, and color. All cats and kittens are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped prior to adoption.

There are many benefits to adopting older cats. Most adult cats are lower maintenance, well mannered, already litter box trained and have an established personality. Adopters help a harder-to-adopt cat find comfort, creating more space for other cats needing safe shelter and care with Greenhill, and take home a loving companion.

“Kitten Season” is the time of year when intact, female cats are likely to have a litter of kittens. The “season” usually runs from late Spring through Summer but is often longer when Fall and Winter are less cold or rainy. So far in 2023, Greenhill has taken in over 560 kittens, a 28% increase over last year.

The shelter relies on donations, volunteers, and foster families to provide care. See the shelters wish list and more information on their summer long kitten shower here (https://www.green-hill.org/greenhills-kitten-shower-celebration-all-summer-long).
