LANE COUNTY, OREGON – (September 10, 2024) – Kitten season is still here and Greenhill Humane Society is turning to the community for support. The shelter is hosting its annual Kitten Shower on Friday, September 13 and Saturday, September 14 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. During the Kitten Shower, families are invited to meet kittens looking for their fur-ever homes, learn about becoming a volunteer or foster family, and enjoy some serious kitten cuddles!

“We are thrilled to host our annual Kitten Shower celebration in hopes that more cats will find their forever homes; we will receive some high needed items; and our foster program will gain more people,” said Sarah Bouzad, Greenhill’s Community Engagement & Events Manager. “Attend this fun event to get some cat love and help local animals. We welcome visitors to bring donations to support the care of the hundreds of kittens still expected to arrive this year.”

So far in 2024, Greenhill has cared for over 1,073 kittens in need of medical treatment, nourishment, and lots of TLC with hundred more anticipated to come in the next few months. Guests of the Kitten Shower are encouraged to bring an item from Greenhill’s wish list. The items listed are vital supplies Greenhill needs to help care for these kittens. Monetary donations are greatly appreciated as Greenhill is often able to purchase items in bulk and at a discount. Gifts can be made online here.

Greenhill has over 95 foster families dedicated to helping vulnerable animals like bottle baby kittens or pregnant mamas. Last year, Greenhill’s foster families cared for 434 kittens. So far in 2024, Greenhill has sent over 395 kittens into foster homes and expects this year’s total to exceed last year’s. Foster homes provide a calm, quiet place for an animal to heal and learn to trust. Foster families receive all necessary supplies and support from Greenhill’s veterinary team. The animal’s length of stay can vary depending on the animal’s needs and the foster parent’s availability. Those interested in adopting a kitten can visit the shelter every day with adoption meet and greets from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. All kitten and adult cat adoptions include: a physical exam and behavioral evaluation by a trained staff, spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, flea and worm treatment, a collar and ID tag, pre-adoption consultation, trackable microchip, 30-day trial of pet insurance, post-adoption support. All cats must be transported home in a carrier (available to purchase for $5) and if it is not a good fit, new pets can be returned to Greenhill at any time.
