Greenhill Launches Digital Lost and Found Chat Box during National Lost Pet Prevention Month

New on-line tool helps reunite missing pets quicker

LANE COUNTY, OREGON – (July 29, 2024) – National Lost Pet Prevention Month is an important reminder for pet parents to keep their furry companions safe, happy, and healthy. As the stray intake shelter for most of Lane County, helping reunite lost animals with their families is a main goal for Greenhill Humane Society. In an effort to help community members report a lost or found animal and receive helpful resources in a timely manner, the shelter has launched a Lost and Found Chat Box.

“Accidents happen and when a pet becomes lost, it’s important to get them reunited with their family as soon as possible,” said Sarah Bouzad, Greenhill’s Community Engagement & Events Manager. “Whether your pet slips out the door, you find a dog on your morning walk, or come across a litter of kittens, calling Greenhill for help is often the first-thing people do. This, new on-line tool can be used 24/7 and gives an immediate response with a list of resources, next steps, and tips.”

In 2023, Greenhill had 966 pet reunions and in 2024 so far there has been over 530 pet reunions.

In an effort to keep your pets safe if they do get lost, make sure they are wearing current identification, even if they are kept inside. A tag with a current phone number can get your pet home much faster. Greenhill recommends a microchip for your pet, in case their collar comes off. If your pet is microchipped, verify that your information is up to date. Visit AAHA Microchip search, to find out how to contact the microchip manufacturer to update current address and phone information.

If you have lost or found a pet, in addition to contacting Greenhill Humane Society, contact your local animal control office.
