A much needed happy moment for the day was when Socks was reunited with her family after they were displaced by the fire!
Socks was picked up by the wonderful members of the Leaburg Fire Station in Blue River who described her as extremely affectionate even with her apparent burns. They brought her back to the station where Lane County Animal Services picked her up and brought her to the Greenhill Humane Society/Lane County Animal in Disaster Veterinary Triage Center located at the VCA McKenzie Animal Hospital. She was examined and treated for her second degree burns on her paws. From there, she was transferred to Greenhill for shelter and continuous care. Yesterday, her family came to the shelter to visit Socks and was thrilled to see her safe and being cared for! Unfortunately, they lost everything in the fire but are so grateful to still have their Socks back. Greenhill will continue to foster Socks for emergency pet boarding until her family can get back on their feet.
We’d like to extend our deepest gratitude to the many firefighters and personnel working endlessly behind the scene to protect our community and animals. The outpouring of compassion during the fire tragedies throughout Oregon is inspiring and we could not do the work we do without our amazing partners like this!
